I don’t know whether you have heard of an Aussie Bloke called Joe Cross (if you are into health, you should have by now), but he is Aussies number one Juicing Guru who is well known for his film/documentary “Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead”, where he embarks on a 60 day juice fast across America, to regain his health and lose weight.
SYNOPSIS (taken from Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead Website):
100 pounds overweight, loaded up on steroids and suffering from a debilitating autoimmune disease, Joe Cross was at the end of his rope and the end of all hope. In the mirror he saw a 310lb man whose gut was bigger than a beach ball and a path laid out before him that wouldn’t end well— with one foot already in the grave, the other wasn’t far behind. FAT, SICK & NEARLY DEAD is an inspiring film that chronicles Joe’s personal mission to regain his health.
With doctors and conventional medicines unable to help long- term, Joe turns to the only option left, the body’s ability to heal itself. He trades in the junk food and hits the road with juicer and generator in tow, vowing only to drink fresh fruit and vegetable juice for the next 60 days. Across 3,000 miles Joe has one goal in mind: To get off his pills and achieve a balanced lifestyle.
I had heard about this movie and was able to view some bits of it on YouTube for a while, but then I decided that it was something I would love to have the DVD of. So I bought it.
I think that it is a great insight on how the body can heal itself with the nutrition that you put into it, and had some in-depth information from Dr Joel Fuhrman, a leading nutritional therapist in new York City (I would love to be able to see this Doctor).
In the movie Joe goes across America and talks to people on the street about health issues, and what their idea of good health is, whether it is achievable and if they think that they could stick to a juice fast. A lot of people said they couldn’t do it, and I must admit ~ I don’t know whether I could do it for 60 days…maybe for about 5, but that would be my limit.
Most people know that what they are doing to themselves is wrong, but it seems that they don’t have the willpower or the inclination to do anything about it…I guess something has to go terribly wrong with their health before they will make any changes.
During his road-trip Joe meets and inspires a couple of people ~ one is a lovely lady ~ Siong Norte who wants to try it to stop her migraine headaches, and the other is Phil Staples who was a morbidly obese truck driver from Sheldon, Iowa, whom Joe met in a truck stop in Arizona and asked him if he would be interested in trying juice fasting to get healthy, a good thing is you get to see the progress that Phil makes (and it is tremendous to watch) as he loses the weight and regains his health…it kind of makes you feel all inspired.
I was very impressed with this movie and would highly recommend it to anyone who is FAT, SICK & NEARLY DEAD. I will definitely be recommending it to any of my nutrition clients.
In the DVD package you get a little card in it with a recipe for one of Joe’s reboot juices on it.. I was so inspired after seeing the film that I dusted off the old juicer and made the juice on the recipe card..
1. The Card
2. The veggies all prepared and waiting to be juiced!!
3. The green reboot juice!!
So what did it taste like?
To be honest, I didn’t like the taste ~ I agree with Siong from the movie, when she said it tasted like grass..LOL.. But I know it is good for me therefore I will make it everyday for a week and see how I feel..
One thing which might be “a bit too much information” It sure did make me “GO”, if you know what I mean…..3 times (OMG)… I might not have liked the taste of the juice, but my body sure did enjoy it!! It gave me heaps of energy too, managed to go for a bike ride and do all the housework when I got home…it was great.
I can’t wait to see FAT, SICK & NEARLY DEAD 2, which has just been released ~ and eventually I will own a copy of that too!!
But as for the first one I give it Five Stars ***** (Jury is still out about the juice..LOL).
So ~ Get YOUR JUICE ON!!
