CHEESE… there anything else a dog loves as much??

Here are some cheesey treats that will have your dog obeying your every command…

  • 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (I use light cheese to reduce fat content)
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/8 cup water

(NB.  you can also add other ingredients if you want to give your dog a bit of variety…I sometimes put in grated apple or applesauce {instead of some water} to give it a bit of flavour ~ your imagination is the limit, but remember to look up the things that dogs can not have in order to keep your pooch in optimal health)

Preheat oven 195 degrees celsius.

Mix the flour and oil together in a bowl mix well, gradually add the cheese making sure all ingredients are well blended.

Add water slowly, two tablespoon at a time, to help the dough stick together until it forms a ball. At this stage if you prefer, you can use your hands and really squish the ingredients together.

Once it forms a ball, roll the dough out on a floured surface and roll to desired thickness. The thinner the dough is rolled out, the crispier the biscuit. Use your favourite cookie cutters. I use a small star, a small heart, and ninja bread men cookie cutters (because that is what I have…though I am looking out for bone shaped ones), and make as many biscuits as the dough allows.

Place on cookie sheets and bake for 10 minutes until lightly browned. Turn them over and bake for another 5 minutes.  Then turn off the heat. (Leave in the oven if you’d like them a bit more “well done”).

Remove from oven and allow to cool completely before storing in an airtight container. Dog biscuits can also be stored in the freezer for up to 3 months (but I guarantee, they won’t last that long!!).
